Hong Kong office growth as it celebrates second anniversary

As Charles Russell Speechlys in Association with Jonathan Mok Legal celebrates its second anniversary we are delighted to welcome new counsel and associates to boost each of our three Private Wealth practice areas of disputes, family and private client.

Genevieve Ku and Patrick Chan join as Counsel, Carman Cheng as Senior Associate, King Ho Tan and Jason Wong as Associates, and Janice Hui and Marco Kwok as Legal Executives.

Disputes team

The arrival of Genevieve and Patrick with their supporting fee earners establishes our disputes team. The team covers a broad range of civil litigation with an increasing emphasis on Private Wealth disputes.

Genevieve Ku is a senior disputes lawyer with 12 years’ experience gained in leading international firms. Genevieve covers commercial litigation, arbitration, regulatory investigation and compliance matters, white-collar crime, contentious probate and matrimonial cases, shareholder disputes, corporate insolvency and cross-border disputes. She works with a range of businesses and individuals in Hong Kong and is one of a small number of lawyers with a license to practice Hong Kong law in mainland China.

Patrick Chan came to the legal profession after enjoying a successful career as an engineer. His clients are owner managed businesses and wealthy individuals from Hong Kong, the mainland and other parts of Asia. He covers shareholder and corporate governance disputes, matters related to employment such as immigration issues, terminations, personal injuries and employees’ compensation. He also has experience in acting for defendants in a wide range of white-collar crimes, such as HKMA, ICAC and SFC investigations.

Family team

Carmen joins Jonathan Mok and Elaine in our family team as our new Senior Associate.

Carmen Cheng completed her training and worked under our Principal, Jonathan Mok, for seven years in an international firm focussing on private clients. She then joined a global bank to work with their high net worth clients for two and a half years before returning to private practice. Carmen will not only assist our Principal but also our Counsel Elaine Sum who has been in practice for 15 years specialising in family disputes.

Private client team

Partner Jeffrey Lee’s team, focussing on tax, trusts and succession, and including senior associate Jessica Leung, is strengthened further by the addition of associate King Ho Tan, who also joins us from a global bank.

King Ho Tan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the London School of Economics, a Juris Doctor degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master of Laws degree from the UCLA School of Law. On qualification, King advised private clients on trusts and estates at a leading Hong Kong law firm. He subsequently joined the institutional trust company of a global bank, with a particular focus on managing trust structures established by high net worth individuals and families from Hong Kong and the Philippines.
